Marcell D Cadney, PhD

Marcell graduated from UC Riverside with his PhD in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology in December 2021. His dissertation was on the early-life effects in mice bred for high voluntary wheel running behavior. His interests are in experimental evolution, exercise physiology, and early-life developmental programming.

In the Yi Lab, Marcell is rounding out his education with hands-on molecular experience and working on a number of pre-existing projects. He is also studying differential patterns of expression and DNA methylation in the high-runner mice. In the future, his interests are in studying the evolution of complex traits such as physical activity in animals and figuring out the potential for using "assisted evolution" techniques to help endangered wild populations in the face of accelerating climate change.

Marcell's extracurricular interests are in 3D modeling, biking, gaming, and building PCs.
